I have always been a keen observer of Buddhist monks in their coloured robes and intrigued by the “Giving Ceremonies” when the monks come out in rows and rows to collect food donations from the public. For this painting I combined a few photos I have gathered from trips and family members who lived in the East to give me the colour variation I wanted. If you watch their feet during these rituals they almost become a rhythmic pattern as they walk past, and can be mesmerising, not taking anything away from the actual ceremony itself.
