Ntombi meaning “Lady” in Zulu, was commissioned by an art collector in New Zealand while I was visiting there in 2016. I thought it to be an appropriate title for this painting of this African elephant matriarch. She was photographed in Thanda Game Reserve late one afternoon as the heard was rushing past us to get to the lodge’s pool to drink.
